Today is the day we got our first glimpse of what next generation of consoles is actually going to look like, as Microsoft showed us the Xbox One, the Xbox 360′s successor. During the launch, Microsoft treated us to a preview of upcoming games, social features, TV integration, and more importantly, a first look at the console. Need for Speed: Shift is one of my favourite racing games ever; its sheer ferocity, hard-as-nails AI and great gameplay really sold it for me. At the time it was unlike any other racing experience on consoles, and in blurring the line between simulator and arcade racing, it found a great middle ground between the two. EA brought it back for a sequel, but does it build on the solid roots the original Shift set? (more…)

The most recent instalment of the Forza franchise is somewhat different to those of the past. All of the previous titles have featured closed circuit series racing gameplay, picking events from a menu or ‘World Tour mode’. Splinter Cell: Conviction worked so well. A great mix of stealth gameplay and intense gunfights, for the many gamers who were disappointed with Double Agent, it restored faith in the series. On top of this, it featured one of the best co-op modes of this generation, showcasing just what Ubisoft is capable of. Thankfully, Ubisoft is bringing Sam Fisher back for a sequel. (more…)

The next generation is coming, and it’s coming fast. With Microsoft due to announce their next generation console in the next few weeks, and with the PlayStation 4 already announced, we’re starting to get an idea of the launch titles we can expect.
